B-17 Ball Turret Gunner WW2 Portrait (381st Bomb Group)

''S/Sgt. Robert Gilbert''

Bob Gilbert served with the 381st Bomb Group, 533rd Bomb Squadron, flying as ball turret gunner aboard B-17s. He and his crew successfully completed 35 combat missions, including notorious targets such as Schweinfurt and Big B(Berlin).

Bob kindly gave me permission to use his photo as a reference for my graphite artwork, and tells me it was taken in approx. October of 1944. I would also like to mention the original photo is featured in Mr. Gilbert’s wartime memoir, "The View From The Bottom Up.''

The original is for my private collection, but prints are available for purchase at: 9.99 GBP / approx.19.99 USD/ approx. 14.63 Euros.

Please allow for postage and packing which would have to be added to this price.

Been a while........

Of late, I've been trying to plan the some new paintings needed for an upcoming exhibition in a town called, Cognac, sw France. Any of you artists reading this will know how it is, I'm sure. My biggest concern at the moment though is framing them all! Wish I'd framed them one at a time as I went along!

Hopefully I will have some new landscapes and other scenes to share with you all soon, even if only a work in progress. ;)

Studio Tidy

Today it looks like not a lot of art will be getting done as it's time to clear out my studio. I don't know about other artists, but the clutter seems to build up around me until there's no room to work or think :) Better get to it!

New Landscape (snow scene)

I've been trying to figure out which idea to begin first, and have decided to continue a project started a while back. It's another landscape, a snow scene to be exact, perhaps a strange idea considering the time of year, but anyway, that's the deal.

The painting is going to be on a 39'' x 12'' stretched canvas, using acrylics.

I should be able to let you see something quite soon.

Preparing for Exhibtion

In July I have an exhibition with two other artists in the town of Cognac, France.

It’s rare for me to have public displays of my work, but on this occasion I’ll be showing a mixed portfolio of works. Luckily, the glorious weather means I have plenty of inspiration and plan on showing acrylic paintings depicting French rural and urban settings, graphite portraiture, photographic prints, and of course, my specialty, aviation art of the WW2 time-frame : aircraft represented: B-17, B-24, B-26, B-29, P-51, P-47, Spitfire, Bf-109, FW-190, and many more!

Nearer the time I will announce the dates of the exhibition and for those who can’t attend, will take some photos………unfortunately you’ll miss the champagne though 
